About the Artist
Nathalie Godin (b. 1989) is a self-taught figurative oil painter and mother of five-year-old twins, based in Richmond, VA.
She first picked up a paintbrush in late 2021, in the thick of early motherhood, searching for something that felt wholly her own. Painting quickly became a space of autonomy—an act of self-reclamation amidst the all-consuming work of raising young children. And yet, what kept her coming back to the canvas was not escape, but devotion: the desire to paint her children.
While her twins remain her greatest muses, Nathalie’s work has evolved to explore the quiet, complex thoughts that shape her experience as a mother. Her paintings capture intimate, everyday moments between mother and child, offering a tender, honest reflection on the bewildering beauty of motherhood.
